Phytoplankton Diversity and Co-Dependency in a Stratified Oligotrophic Ecosystem in the South Adriatic Sea

چکیده

The oligotrophy of the southern Adriatic Sea is characterized by seasonal stratification which enables nutrient supply to euphotic layer. A set interdisciplinary methods was used elucidate diversity and co-dependency bacterio- phytoplankton water column during period July 2021. total 95 taxa were determined microscopy: 58 diatoms, 27 dinoflagellates, 6 coccolithophores, 4 other autotrophs, included Chlorophyceae, Chrysophyceae, Cryptophytes. Nanophytoplankton abundances higher in comparison microphytoplankton. prokaryotic plankton community as revealed HTS dominated Proteobacteria (41–73%), Bacteroidota (9.5–27%), cyanobacteria (1–10%), while eukaryotic composed parasitic Syndiniales (45–80%), Ochrophyta (2–18%), Ciliophora (2–21%), Chlorophytes (2–4%), Haptophytes (1–4%), Bacillariophyta (1–13%), Pelagophyta (0.5–12%) Chrysophyta (0.5–3%). Flow cytometry analysis has recorded Prochlorococcus photosynthetic picoeukaryotes more abundant deep chlorophyll maximum (DCM), Synechococcus heterotrophic bacteria most surface thermocline layers. Surface, thermocline, DCM layers distinct considering diversity, temperature, correlations, extreme values at beginning investigating indicated a possible flux. Nutrient temperature recognized main environmental drivers bacterioplankton abundance.

Phytoplankton abundance and pigment biomarkers in the oligotrophic, eastern Adriatic estuary.

Phytoplankton distribution and environmental characteristics were determined in a shallow, highly stratified and oligotrophic estuary (Zrmanja, eastern Adriatic). Samples were collected in two contrasting seasons; winter (February 2000), when river discharge was high, and in summer (July 2003), a period of drought. Phytoplankton distribution was closely related to salinity gradients, nutrient l...

Bacterial diversity in the South Adriatic Sea during a strong, deep winter convection year.

The South Adriatic Sea is the deepest part of the Adriatic Sea and represents a key area for both the Adriatic Sea and the deep eastern Mediterranean. It has a role in dense water formation for the eastern Mediterranean deep circulation cell, and it represents an entry point for water masses originating from the Ionian Sea. The biodiversity and seasonality of bacterial picoplankton before, duri...

Composition and diversity of ichthyoplankton in the Boka Kotorska Bay (South Adriatic Sea)

Variation in the diversity of ichthyoplankton was analyzed from samples collected during threeyear cycle in Boka Kotorska Bay. Samples were collected using Calvet (modified PairOVET) plankton net at 18 stations, from July 2006 through January 2009. Families with most numerous species were Engraulidae, Sparidae and Labridae. Investigation shows dominance of anchovy (Engraulis encrasicolus), Medi...
